Penny Wise, Pound Foolish

I had a client who didn’t want to pay us to transfer her 5 parcels of real estate to her trust. She said her son was “in real estate” and would do the transfers for her. A few years later, the client died and the son discovered that he had done all 5 transfers incorrectly, so none of her properties were in her trust. The children ended up paying over 10 times the amount we would have charged to do the transfers to the trust, because we had to probate the 5 properties. To add insult to the injury, the probate took over 2 years when it would have taken 60 days to settle them had all 5 properties already been properly transferred into the trust. The lesson to be learned her is you get what you pay for.
